Lucine immigrated to Canada in the early 90’s from Jerusalem, Israel, where both she and her parents were born. Today, she is a school teacher in Markham.
She learned many of her dishes from her mother, and her mother-in-law. While Lucine is Armenian, her cooking was also influenced by the region where she grew up. She says of the differences between Armenian food from different regions like Syria, Lebanon, and Israel, “It’s all the same, as I understand it. Just the spices are different!”
